Well, I know it's on the wiki, but since it's down..

What is the URL for Kingario? Other than Peasant's Quest, it's the best game on HRR.com :kot:

Eh.. it's impossible to get past the goomba. I wish they had the .fla file on the site, then someone could make a version that you can play. :)
But then again, you just KNOW some extremely dedicated fan will make one out of scratch.

right click it and uncheck 'play' as soon as possible. You can move, but the Goomba can't. YOU CAN MAKE IT TO THE END! then die.

.fla is the format that Flash movies use when you're creating them, e.g. before they're published and turned into Flash Player (.swf) files. You can't open a .fla without Macromedia's very expensive Flash authoring software.

I'm assuming it's because they're mean and want to make a profit. :p I could have sworn I saw some open source copycat a year or two ago, though.

To my knowledge there are no open source Flash authoring tools (Swish comes to mind). There are a number of third-party tools, but since I assume they're licensing Macromedia's proprietary technology, it's not open-source. Of course none of them are anywhere near as robust as Macromedia's own offering.

Bah! Porple, your file doesn't work (I'm guessing you made it on a different version of Flash MX). Maybe you could give us the URL for the .swf file of the edited version?

I didn't bother making an edited version (I'll leave that up to you guys), but what's the problem you're having? I made it on Flash MX 2004 (the newest version).

Actually, the file should still work because .fla should be universal between all versions of Flash.

Alright. I knew that the newer versions could view older flash files, but I didn't know that it didn't work the other way around. Anyway, try this file:

http://porplemontage.com/kingio2.fla

I saved it as a "Flash MX file" instead of a "Flash MX 2004 file". I don't know if it will fit your needs with your version, but you might as well give it a try.

notes from the editor:
*For some reason in this file his walking is a little choppy
*In both files, he doesn't say the thing about his life being a joke at the end.
*Guys, I whipped this file up in 2 seconds over a month ago. It was never supposed to be a big deal. If you have any problems, I guess you could talk to me about it, but it's still not a big deal.

Heh, that one worked. Here is my version of Kingio. You have to move fast, and don't worry, the Goomba is stuck in the air twice. I discovered, however, that you're too short to jump the boxes, but it's still fun to get past the Goomba. I'll add some things later.
Thanks, porplemontage!

Yeah, could you make it so that Kingio doesn't travel forever in webspace?

Well, just press the arrow key that corresponds to the direction the KoT's going in to make him stop moving. I currently am not uber-skilled in the arts of ActionScript, so I'm not sure how to create barriers.
