We've already got that (or something like it):

IIRC, you can get a feed for a specific forum by using a f= switch, e.g. to get a feed for Off-Subject Discussion you'd use:

http://forum.hrwiki.org/rss.php?f=12

There are a couple other switches, but I can't remember what they are just now.

Edit: Ah, here's the thread where we talked about it:

Well, I suggested a page drop-down box awhile back in the Suggestions section, but never found something like it that was phpBB compatible. But, I did find this:

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=139080

It basically takes long threads and adds a couple pages in the middle of the long topic. So, it'd be like (In pages):

1, 2, 3, 4 ....... 48, 49, 50, 51, 52 ......... 97, 98, 99, 100

I think it'd be really great to some really long topics like 'Post Your Pics Part Whatever' and 'The Comeback Game' that require numerous clicks of pages to get through if you want to see something near the middle.

I got about halfway through making a Greasemonkey script that does it--it works but still has some significant kinks. :/

Do you have the link to your (probably unfinished) one?
Whoa... I tried that but I only made it about a quarter of the way :((

Eh, I guess I could share it. I've posted it here.

But here's the deal: It's really, really ugly, which is half the reason I stopped working on it. It's a series of uncommented kludges, basically, and the whole thing needs to be refactored, if not rewritten from scratch. But like I said, it pretty much works. The biggest problems are: 1) it doesn't work on the first page of a thread, 2) it only works at the bottom of the page, not the top, and 3) did I mention the kludges (check out that "magicWord" section.. ewww)? But, er, enjoy it, I guess.

Edit: Oh, also, it'll probably work (to the extent which it is capable) on any phpBB forum using a subSilver-based theme (like ours), but I make no guarantees--I've only tested it here.

[s]Grrr... I can't get it to install on my computer. It's likely my fault; if it is I'll try an' figure it out later.[/s]

It works on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1

Is it supposed to automatically go to the page after you select it? I chose a page from the drop-down menu, and nothing happened...

Yeah, it's supposed to, but that part is (apparently) broken with recent versions of greasemonkey. If you're interested in trying to fix it, look around lines 18 (the goToMessage function) and 91(where the select box's onchange attribute is set to call goToMessage). As it stands, it throws a "goToMessage is not defined."

Instead of a drop-down, I think maybe a search for a specific page? For example, you go onto a thread with many pages, and you have some search bar up top that allows you to go to a particular page within that thread.

Now I'm not good at ANY programming, let me tell you, so I don't know if that would make things easier or harder.

not a dropdown page in the thread, thatswhy you got those numbers on the bottom, more like a "Place your mouse over the link, and a huge list of page numbers pops up in a yellow, or red."

Well, that's what they meant :p but anyway, expanding the middle area still means you almost have to go 1 by 1. What if you want page 75 out of 100? You'd still have to click quite a few times from either the middle. Maybe with the search thing, which I have seen on many other sites (none of which come to mind) it might make things a little quicker...?

Either way the drop-box is ideal.

In my opinion, there should be section of the profile for displaying gender. Such a change would prevent many embarrassing posts.

I agree. A gender thingy would be good... I thought Ace was a girl the first week I was here. :p

In the forum games comic thread, I thought Exibit-A was a girl.

Edit:
I just read through the other pages, it would seem this idea has already been suggested. Appearantly, we won't be given the option.

What-what-WHA?!

*totally kills Doug*

:P

But yeah, I think it would be a simple, but nice touch. I mean, if I recall correctly, some of us thought Ath-a-late was a guy for quite some time.

Yeah, that would be nice. Alberto wasn't sure if I was a guy or a girl, and I think he still doesn't know.

I'm male., learn it. LEARN IT NOW. :p

(stands on soap box) Are we forum goers going to stand for this confusion any longer?

<Other Guys> No!</Other Guys>

Do you want to go on not knowing whether or not it would be weird for a certain person to wear a dress?

<Other Guys> No!</Other Guys><Ramrod> Hey! </Ramrod>

Are we going to do something about it?

(Cricket sounds)

I'm no great thing at programming, but maybe if you have script for the tag lines beneath the avatars, maybe you could just copy and paste and put a line in the profile asking for gender. Then, if wanted, the user could fill it out and be asked whether or not their gender be displayed under the avatar or in the profile. Tis an ok idea?

For those of you who don't want to wait for the Administrators, I have taken action myself. Head over to "Explain your Signatures" to check it out.
