THanks and great Wiki and forum too....

I agree "baleted". I've always know MC to stand for master of ceremonies... Or mass times the speed of light. But I think it's safe to say we are talking about the former here.

And I'm glad to see you like the Wiki. We're happy to have you.

The Cheat's Theme Song, during the line, "Who's the guy who looks like The Cheat?" A picture of Pikachu goes by.
The Cheat's AIM SN from SBE i she be and SBE marzipan is cheatachu72 (or some numbers), an obvious Pikachu reference.
The Cheat has some Pokemon ties.

I've seen stuff on H*R.com. I was talking about information on The Brothers Chaps. Like an interview somewhere where they say they play the Pokemon game or something. (And I think I kind of said this because I know their aren't any interviews like that... I might have even been joking, but it's hard to say now.)

But of course, you're right, Tim. Thanks for the reminder.

Than wouldn't that be 3 or 4 references?

Yes. What's your point? We've already agreed on the Pokemon thing...

Do you have something to add?

There is already an FF about "Bushido" the video game, and in the above fact, "Japanese" is spelled "japanes." I doubt :sb: would stand for that sort of thing. I condensed the two Bushido FFs into one, and I spelled "Japanese" right this time.

I think it's a good point, you shouldn't just delete things because YOU don't agree, you should run it by the forum first.

Hi Sean. In case you didn't know, this issue was resolved back in early July.

Aaronak decided to tell us about the recent edit that he/she made regarding the bushido fun fact. While this was okay, it was completely unnecessary.

Sean, please be advised that edits on the Wiki do not have to be explained on the forum. That is what edit summaries and discussion pages are for.

So then, let's start a thread about deleting this one, and call it "Deleting 'deleting "vague" fun facts'"...

Technically, I suppose I'm dragging up an old issue, but as a stickler for details, I must do so since certain matters have not been attended.

BALEETED is indeed correct. MC stands for Master of Ceremonies. "Mike Control" is a reference to the term "Mic Control" or "Microphone Control," which is the ability/capacity for using a microphone in such a way as to get the best sound from your voice. This includes avoiding making aspirated consonant sounds (such as most Ps and Ts) directly into the microphone, to prevent that obnoxious popping sound. The entry in the Wiki ought to be updated as such. I would do so personally, but having just now registered to the forums, I don't want to upset the community by appearing as an upstart.

Safe journeys,
~Llyrwech

"Master of Ceremonies" is the proper, literate expansion of the abbreviation "MC". Since most rappers are neither proper nor literate, of course they'd change it to stand for something else, so to them, MC stands for "Microphone Controller". That's why the fun fact says "one possible expansion of the abbreviation MC". Considering that Strong Bad begins improvising a rap song as soon as he says this, I think it's fairly safe to assume he's playing on the rap meaning. The concept of "microphone control" doesn't fit nearly as well into the context, especially since Strong Bad also says "Mike Controller".

But TBC have made undoubtable refernces to old-school video games and, within that, japanese culture, and japanese basically worship the Pikachu. Let's face it- a Pokemon reference IS likely, and I'm pretty sure this fact was valid, since so many have approved it on the forum.

Since this topic was created, I think members have been respectful toward Fun Fact boundaries- or, at least, I have. When I see a Fun Fact that I think is incredibly stupud and a far stretch, I leave it be... After all, different people think of different things, and if they think of a certain toon whilst seeing a certain thing, then its still a reference whether or not TBC intended it to be.

MC is Mike Controller and Master of Ceremonies?

MC could be Master Chief, Mastercard, Motorcycle Club, Mad Catz, Maltese Cross, Mission Control, or Fish Lake. Without context, it's anyone's guess - I'm going to recommend we stick to context, known references, culture, and internal consistencies when interpreting. When there's more than one very likely interpretation, it's best to list both alternatives so that the information is available to consumers. That's my ImageImage.

Hi there Swooshoman, the Pokemon issue was already resolved as previously noted. I believe the thread has been revived to discuss the "MC" issue.

As Kef noted, the fun fact currently reads:

http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/cheatday#Fun_Facts wrote:
The name "Mike Control" is apparently a reference to the notion of a "microphone controller", one possible expansion of the abbrevation MC (as in MC Hammer).

Is there anything see wrong with that?

Just one... Where do we hear anything about an "MC Hammer"?

Okay, I have searched far and wide for the proper topic to post this under, and I think this is as good as it's going to get.

I had something I was considering posting on the wiki but decided I'd better bounce it off more knowledgable people first, in case it's one of those vague facts that isn't worth posting. Upon hearing a recording of Rapper's Delight by The Sugarhill Gang, I immediately thought of Everybody to the Limit and if I would venture a guess I would say that the lyrical rhythmic figures/feel used in EttL was inspired by (or directly ripped from) Rapper's Delight. To me it was a striking similarity. But I'm hesitant to put that up because: first, for all I know those are common rhythms used by many songs so the similarity is insignificant; second, would anyone who's life doesn't revolve around music even know what I'm talking about in the first place.

Any thoughts?

I can see where you're comming from Foxy, but I think it's still a bit of a stretch. I mean, you can hear vaguely a similarity between the two songs, but vaguely is the key word.

You're definitely not alone in thinking this - "Rapper's Delight" immediately came to mind when I first heard "Everybody To The Limit" as well, and off the top of my head, I can't think of any other songs with quite the same distinctive delivery as the ''rockin to the bang bang boogy say upchuck the boogy, to the rhythm of the boogity beat' part, and ETTL is done in much the same style. I personally think it's worth considering as a fun fact.

Thanks for the feedback. I figured it would be safe enough to put it under "Remarks" (I used the "bang bang boogy. . ." bit as an example, too). I guess we'll see what happens, and if it doesn't get removed from the site then it must not have been too vague.

More knowledgeable than who, exactly?

Perhaps the reason you had to search so far back is because this thread is obsolete. It has been replaced by the STUFF system. At the very least, if you're wanting to post something vague like this on the wiki, then you should bring it up on a wiki talk page, not the forum.

Yeah, and that's exactly what I couldn't find. If you could tell me where that is so that next time I'll know where to go (if there is a next time), that would be just wonderful and glorious.

Oh, and me. More knowledgable than me.

The format is a little tricky, but it's all spelled out there in the instructions. There are also various help pages associated with it.

Hm. Well that would have been nice to know before I went ahead and put it on. I'll go add the {{stuffmore| thing (if I understand, that's what you want me to do?).

Oh, also, I put it under "Remarks" instead of "Real-World References" or "Trivia" or anything that sounded like it would be expected to be more reliable, if that makes any difference.
