I have Mozilla Firefox and all the pop ups are coming through internet explorer. I have Window XP and my computer is 8 years old. I don't know if I have a virus or just a bad case of the pop ups. The computer is also scrolling up and down the page by it's self and typing in the number 0. It's also making weird noises like it's breathing deeply. I had a hard times typing this because of this problem. And yesterday half of the computer screen flashed really fast to the color black then back to normal again. Please help. Thanks.

^Yes. At this point the only thing to do is contact a clergyman of your specific religious affiliation.

Or get someone who knows what they're doing to give you a complete reinstall and then stand behind you and everyone else using the computer to hit you upside the head with a bamboo training sword every time you do something that could give you spyware.

Wow...well, first, just stick to using Firefox. Forget IE. Beyond that, I'd shut down, unplug, and clean out the dust from inside the tower (using a small vaccuum or something). Then, I'd obtain and run the following programs:

Ad-Aware
AVG Anti-Virus
Speed Up My PC

I'd also run a defrag on it, too, just to be safe. With the automatic scrolling thing...make sure it's not because you accidentally clicked the scroll wheel on your mouse or something. If that doesn't fix everything...then take it to a professional and/or get a new computer.

Doesn't mean he couldn't have upgraded to a mouse with a scroll wheel since then...and sorry for the multi-posting there...the forums and my Internet connection weren't being friendly.

As for the pop-ups, pianoman hit the nail on the head there. AVG has kept my computer running just fine.

Sounds like your PC has been possessed by an internet demon, 'cause I don't know why it would scroll by itself. Unless it's your gear that stink and you just have spyware.

Yeah, I think those programs (and possibly Spybot, too) will solve the problem, but if they don't, I know a lot more things you can try.

You might want to defragmentate as well. Windows' got a poor one built in, but there are a few good ones out there for download. And make sure you get something that can fix the Windows registry.

Not true. I have a Pentium III desktop with a scroll mouse. Bought it in late 1998.

ExJon means that PieMax was referring to ed 'lim' smilde's post, not yours.

Not that I agree. I think that Cocoa Pebbles --> Flintstones --> prehistoric --> old computer.

Yeah, my computer automatically turned its self off today, but then I turned it back on. It really shocked me though....

Don't you just hate when you hit the power button on the tower and it doesn't light up? Then you hit it over and over again and finally have to accept that your computer is FRIED, man.

Congrats! What are the specs, out of curiosity? Is it "new" new, or "used, but new to me" new?

I'm afraid it's a bit too little a lot too late.
