I've been a bit worried lately, considering it'll be the site's 10th aniversary this New Year's Day, that the Bros Chaps might like,*deep breath, cease from updating the site. What are you guys' thoughts on this?

It won't happen now. I reckon the site can do another 10 years, at least. Although it has to happen one day. Eventually the Bros will decide they're too old to keep working on the site, and unless they get someone in who will continue exactly as they want them to (and can do some damn good impressions), Homestar Runner dot net will just... stop.

I really don't think it will end after ten years. But it is true that it will end sooner or later

It has to end eventually, but I doubt it will end soon.

A few months ago, an anonny on the Wiki left a comment. Based on that, I don't see what "Dude, Meta" has to do with the end of Homestar Runner. A little off-topic, but last Tuesday (Dec 7, 2009), the entire website was down. Not a thing loaded! Was back shortly after. I kind of doubt the end of Homestar Runner will be anytime soon.

The reason I don't think it will end anytime soon is that TBC are showing all the hallmarks of planning for the future and none of the hallmarks of wrapping things up. The best evidence I have of this is their public support of our fundraising drive. If they were about to close up shop, I don't think they would have bothered. Instead they enabled us to continue for at least another year, and I'm sure they'll have content for that length of time and beyond.

I have a bad feeling that 2010 will be H*R's last year, but I hope I'm wrong.

One cause for concern would be the lack of updates. The last update was over a month ago, and it's been almost two months since the last toon. If The Brothers Chaps are taking an extended break, they ought to reference it in their next toon.

It will continue as long as they can earn enough from merchandising to cover costs and pay their bills.

I doubt it will end now because it would be hard for them to find real jobs....there are just so few available.

You do know we know why there's no updates, right?

What I'm saying is with their lives getting more busy, they won't have time for H*R, anymore (though I understand if they go this route). That's why I fear that 2010 is H*R's last year.

What are they going to replace it with? This is their job. You don't quit your job without something else to fall back on, especially in a down economy with families to feed. As long as Homestar Runner still pays the bills, I don't see them quitting anytime soon.

Now that you put it that way, I'm not as worried of H*R going away.

I suspect that since they work from the home & have a new highly dependant pooping-&-screaming-type new mouth to feed, things are going to be a little slow for the next 3 years. (That's how long it takes for kids to learn how to walk, feed, & use the bathroom by themselves, right?)

I made plenty sure they got some good money from me this Decemberween.

Didn't buy anything from them, yet (can't find the time or any way to get money to them to get the gear).

I doubt they're done...they'll probably pick it back up in a few weeks...maybe a month. With the new baby and all, I can see how they wouldn't have a lot of time to work on a new cartoon.

All I know is, I've been checking HR Wiki every day since December 1, and I am going to weep tears of joy the day I finally see a new cartoon. Even a 79-second short would thrill me at this point ;P

Especially considering 79 Seconds Left was a million times cuter than a pooping and screaming beast could ever be.

I find that the longer the wait is, the bigger the upload. The last upload drout we endured was quenched with SBCG4AP.

That's what I'm worried about right now. They've recently made updates emphasizing the store - I would guess that means things aren't going so well. There's stronger promotion of their store than ever now, starting with the notes on the SB Email menu and TGS menu, and now with the index page update and "store" being in red on the navbar. How long before we see Cheat Commandos-style in-toon promotion?

I thought the same thing. I really think that instead of emphasizing the store they should start churning out some more content, at which point the store will take care of itself.

Emphasizing the store is probably just to make up for the
recent lack of updates. You know, just until they start
getting back to work.

Seriously, how long has it been? They didn't even really DO anything for Trogday other than hit us with nostalgia and sales.

"New Baby" stopped being a good answer about three weeks ago.

I don't want to be insensitive to the Brothers Chaps and their families, but even women who are working outside the home only get six weeks of maternity leave before they're expected to be back at work. We're talking about two brothers, only one of whom has a new baby, who work out of the basement of their home.

For a site that provides their living, I think they have gone way too long without an update. What about all the casual fans out there who don't check places like H*R Wiki on a regular basis or read the RSS feed? Alot of them have probably already stopped checking for new content.

The United States is actually unusual throughout the world in that we have zero guaranteed parental leave. The average in Europe, on the other hand, is around 15 weeks (over three months), and in Sweden you get a whopping 16 months! (Not sure how it would work over there for people like TBC, who are self-employed.) So while 10 weeks (so far) seems a lot to Americans, and especially to us fans, to the rest of the world it's not really that much.

I do agree with you though. I support their right to take whatever breaks they want, for however long they want and for whatever reason they want, but it would be nice for them to give us some kind of indication how long they intend to be gone, especially when their last communication made it sound like things would start back up around the first of the year. Most people, myself included, handle waiting a lot better when they know how long the wait is going to be, and they grow increasingly antsy and frustrated when the actual duration eclipses and then greatly surpasses the anticipated duration.
